Congress report faults US intelligence on Iran
A US _______________________ report says the country's _______________________ community is ill-prepared to assess Iran's _______________________ weapons capabilities and its intentions for developing weapons of mass destruction.
Noting "_______________________ gaps in our knowledge and understanding of the various areas of concern about Iran," the House Intelligence Committee staff report _______________________ whether the United States could even effectively engage in talks with Iran on ways to diffuse tensions.
Iran said on Tuesday (local time) _______________________ could begin immediately on a package offered in June by the United States and its allies aimed at discouraging Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program.
Previous calls for such dialogue have been seen by the West as a stalling tactic.
The major powers made the offer after Iran said last December it had resumed efforts to enrich uranium in defiance of the international community.
The congressional report, saying "there is a great deal about Iran that we do not know", warned that "_______________________ will need high-quality intelligence to assess Iranian _______________________ to prepare for any new round of negotiations".
After the US-led _______________________ of Iraq in 2003, which the US said was aimed at rooting out weapons of mass _______________________, huge gaps in America's intelligence-gathering capabilities were exposed.
No such weapons were found and US troops are now bogged down in an extended conflict.
The house panel's report warned of similar _______________________ in the quality of US intelligence on Iraq's neighbour Iran.
"A special concern is major gaps in our knowledge of Iranian nuclear, _______________________, and chemical programs," it said.
"Iran is a serious security threat on which the United States needs better intelligence," the report said, citing the need for more thorough and timely analysis of political, _______________________ and other developments in Iran and improved coordination and information-sharing among US intelligence agencies.
More Farsi-speaking staffers in intelligence agencies and stronger counter-intelligence efforts also were recommended.
The 29-page report, submitted to committee chairman Peter Hoekstra, a Michigan Republican, and senior Democrat Jane Harman of California, was _______________________ by a classified document detailing the US intelligence community's shortcomings.
The report comes amid concern that Iran is aiding _______________________ in Iraq and helping Hezbollah stage missile attacks on Israel from southern Lebanon.
The house report noted that besides having a likely _______________________ weapons development program and an offensive biological weapons program, Iran has the largest inventory of _______________________ missiles in the Middle East.
The missiles could be integrated with nuclear weapons some time in the next decade, it said.
But it also said it was possible Iran could be engaged in a "denial and _______________________ campaign" to exaggerate progress on its nuclear program, as Saddam Hussein apparently did with his weapons of mass destruction programs.

It is the 17th August - the 4th session of this learnscope project. I tried to go through the notes from the 3rd session earlier today - but still find the whole process so frustrating as I do not seem to be able to "get it " at times - then my mind once more turns to jelly and I can do no more .
However with a few extra pointers this evening I am having more sucess !!

2nd Session Thursday 3rd August

Here I am at the 2nd session of Learnscope . Last week I kept up really well and felt that I had a handle on the whole session. Today however is a completely different matter !!
I have attended 2 very heavy meetings and arrived late for this session. I was then on the backfoot and as the office was locked (understandably) I could not access my notes from last week ...........................so , therefore for most of this session I have been in catch up mode and that makes my thought processses go into "lock-up" and I find it hard to take in any new info ................so I have found this session exceptionally hard tonight !

I hope that next week will go better - however even thinking of next week - I think that I have a late meeting to go to which is the end of a 3 year project and I have been involved with it for 18months so I will probably attend that !!!

Sometimes when you are sitting at your first class you wonder why on earth you enrolled in the course......................however sitting here with my colleagues over the next 10 weeks I hope to increase my "E " knowledge ! One can live in hope !

This is the very first time that I have ever even heard of blogs - and now I am making one !

This is my first homework exercise - wow!
